Another excellent book from Apress. Although there is a lot of documentation for Android available on the web, it is difficult task for a busy developer to dig through it all and make sense of it. The authors do a great job of distilling concepts like resources, intents and OpenGL 3D to their core components, making them easily understood by the reader. There are lots of great code snippets that will help a busy developer get on with development instead of struggling to get some piece of functionality working quickly. Rating: 5 / 5

Really great book. Worth it just for the OpenGL ES introduction. Wish it had more information on LocationManager and SensorManager (hence just 4 stars). Get this one over Hello Android. Rating: 4 / 5

In all this book is a decent resource. I think it is a very dry read, and not at all what I would expect from such an exciting area like Android development. Reads like stereo instructions from the early 80's, however, I will say that the authors do go into immense detail (ad nauseum) for their points and the examples. I will credit the book with having some good examples. The intro to OpenGL ES is ok, more academic than practical. In all, it is a good resource for understanding some of the parts of the Android API. Would not recommend this as your first book, or even your second unless you are writing a thesis on Android and need some citations. Rating: 3 / 5
